Four Week Intro to Improv Comedy Workshop for Adults

After two sold-out workshops, Jersey Improv Lab is bringing back its four-week Intro to Improv Comedy workshop in downtown Hoboken! It is designed for adults who want to tap into the art of improv to unlock their creativity and think on their feet.
By the end of the four weeks, you’ll have a strong foundation in the basics of improv comedy, including scene and character building. You will also feel more comfortable speaking up, thinking on your feet, and trusting yourself in social and professional situations — all without ever feeling like you’re “performing.”
No homework, no memorizing lines, no pressure.
This isn’t theater school.
It’s improv as a playful, social, presence-building, after-work experience.
Whether you’re new to town, craving a creative outlet, or simply looking for something more meaningful than another midweek happy hour, this workshop offers a structured, supportive way to connect and grow.
Enrollment is capped at 16 participants.

About the Instructor
This workshop is led by Nick Carrillo, an actor and improv comedy instructor who has been teaching and performing improv, sketch, and theater throughout New York City for several years.
Nick has trained/performed/taught with UCB, The PIT, and The Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute, and was an original cast member of the Off-Broadway hit Puffs; Or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic.
In addition to his stage work, Nick has appeared in commercials and has been featured on NBC, VH1, Comedy Central, and truTV. He also works with Marvel, hosting digital video content and appearing on The Official Marvel Podcast.
As an instructor, Nick focuses on creating a supportive, low-pressure environment where students can have fun, take risks, and build confidence while learning the fundamentals of improv comedy.
Fun fact: Nick has performed improv with Goosebumps author R.L. Stine…twice!
Feedback From Past Students
4.9 / 5 average rating from our last cohort
Half have already signed up for Level 2 this fall
“Seeing the growth in myself and my classmates, and how we all went from unsure and shy to much more bold and confident as the classes went on.”
— Stephen, Jersey City
“Nick was so welcoming and encouraging, pulled us out of our comfort zone but not in a scary way.”
— Sunanda, Hoboken
“It’s so nice meeting people while also not really meeting them in relationship to the ‘normal’ way you meet someone (work or through a mutual friend). Getting to know so many different kinds of people was so nice.”
— Amelia, Hoboken
“Nick was an amazing teacher. The group was filled with talented people who I can call new friends.”
— Corey, Union City
“This class really helped me think on my feet more and be more comfortable performing in front of people. Even simple things like maintaining eye contact got a lot easier.”
— Rachel
Looking Ahead
For those who want to keep going, we are offering a 6-week Level 2 From Practice to Performance workshop this Fall that ends with a live showcase. We are continuously building out our improv program to offer advanced workshops focused on deeper scene work and ensemble development that will eventually qualify students to be part of of Jersey Improv Lab’s house team. More details will be shared with current students.
